New Kazan Federal University branch officially opened in Jizzakh, Uzbekistan 12.10.2022

The ceremony took place in the city of Jizzakh on 10 October.

The event was visited by President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov, Governor of Jizzakh Province Ergash Saliev, Rector of KFU Lenar Safin, Vice-Rector for External Affairs Timirkhan Alishev, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Yekaterina Turilova, and Director of Jizzakh Branch Ozod Babomuradov.

President Minnikhanov noted that Russia and Uzbekistan are inextricably linked by fruitful cooperation. Rector Safin said that the branch aims to produce high-quality staff in line with international standards and KFU’s multifaceted expertise. A decision to open the branch was made last year, and all the preparations were completed in time for the autumn unveiling.

The branch is located at the premises of the former Higher Air Force School of Uzbekistan. It will offer programs in machine engineering, software, economics, geology, biology, medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry, as well as research and development in respective areas.

This academic year is going to start on 31 October. Notably, the two universities already launched several programs last year in a mixed format, and the students will spend their sophomore year in this new facility together with admittees of 2022.

About a third of the enrollees are in public-funded programs, which in Uzbekistani realities means that they will have a mandatory three-year employment period in their relevant specialization in local companies and public offices.

As was also revealed, over 40 percent of educators will be recruited from overseas including Kazan Federal University.
