Innopolis University summed up the results of the international hackathon on artificial intelligence Global AI Challenge

90 teams from 15 countries participated in the competition. The event with a prize fund of 1.2 million rubles was organized by the Research Center for Artificial Intelligence at Innopolis University.
The first place according to the results of the international hackathon was taken by the ClosedAI team from Moscow. Second place went to the Gradient Kekpointing team from Skolkovo. The third place was shared by the DrugANNs teams from Moscow and Semyons, which includes developers from St. Petersburg and Vienna (Austria).
“Participants presented cases that are relevant for the development of science that has no boundaries and the solution of practical problems of modern medicine. And I am very pleased that Russian developers became the winners of the Global AI Challenge. The guys not only showed excellent results, but also contributed to the digitalization of the country's economy. For its part, the Government will also help ensure that the presented solutions of the developers are put into practice, including as part of the implementation of the federal project "Artificial Intelligence".
President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov noted the importance of holding international competitions in the field of artificial intelligence for the development of the country's technological potential.
“Artificial intelligence helps us improve the quality of people's lives. It is no longer limited to voice assistants. Today it is used by doctors for diagnostics, in the financial sector for analysis, and for transport management. Various areas of AI application are actively studied at Innopolis University, whose employees conduct research projects together with industrial partners and medical institutions, developing an expert community, including through various kinds of competitions. And using the example of this hackathon, we see how the projects of young scientists in the field of artificial intelligence make a significant contribution not only to the development of high technologies, but also, for example, modern medicine,” said Rustam Minnikhanov.
Ramil Kuleev, director of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence at Innopolis University, stressed that the hackathon solutions will speed up the search for new drugs for known viruses: “Hackathon participants developed models for screening associated with the SARS-CoV-2 virus based on small molecules. These models can be used to create drugs for coronavirus, and the proposed approaches can be used to develop drugs not only for various viral, but also other types of diseases.”
